Making a video or film should never start with a production - it should always begin with a message and a target audience, and then the design of a media to bring the two together as effectively as possible.
It’s so obvious that it often gets passed over. But nobody spends the sort of funds it takes to create any type of moving media program without a reason, which almost always ties into an action they want the viewer to take or believe… and part of our job as producers is to discover precisely what that reason is and then help to develop the best way to communicate it clearly, effectively and honestly so that the targeted viewer takes that action.
Sometimes our clients come to CLAi with nothing more than a need to sell a product, tell a story or voice an opinion and we have to build a strategic and marketing framework around that with them. Other times they have a complete set of scripts and a storyboard and are primarily looking just for someone to put it all together to create a video or an internet program. Every project and every client is different.
One quick terminology clarification – we are not an advertising agency or a design house – while we can and do advise on print, web, and placement we 100% do not create non-moving media or do any media booking and buying. Our “agency” work is concerned with expanding the role of our producers to include research, creative, content design and evaluation that a traditional ad agency might do – where that is appropriate for a client. Much of our work has always been through and with advertising agencies, marketing agencies, strategic development firms and design companies… at the end of the day we don’t worry about titles and groups, and will provide whatever services and roles will create the best, most effective and efficient pieces for all of our clients.
